Vinification: Hand-harvested and bunch-pressed. 1/3 is French oak and 2/3 is fermented with natural yeast in stainless steel tank. 100% Marora Kutic fermentation.
Kumeu River
This winery was founded by the Brakovitch family, who immigrated from Yugoslavia in 1944 to the Kumeu district, about 20 kilometers northwest of Auckland. The owner, Mike Bracovich, died in 1949, leaving his wife, Kate, and son, Mate, to take over viticulture and winemaking, enhancing the reputation of the new winery. Mate is a well-known name in the New Zealand wine industry and served as Chairman of the New Zealand Wine Institute from 1982 to 1985. After Mate's death in 1992, his wife Melba and three sons keep the winery under control. In 1989, his eldest son Michael, who is in charge of brewing, became New Zealand's first Master of Wine.
